i-Search Paper
Hello everyone, today you have a lot to do.
1. OPEN YOUR SEARCH JOURNAL: Double check your Research Question and your Thesis statement. Do they make sense? Are they grammatically correct? Are they fifth grade level or ninth grade level? Make sure you did not start your thesis with, "It," "My paper is about" or "What I'm researching is." If you began this way, you need to reword it now. Did you put your thesis in your introduction? Check it now!
2. Double check your search journal. Do you have the following?
URL Date accessed
Copyright date
Author or Organization
INFO.
INFO should contain any DIRECT QUOTES you might use and PARAPHRASES you might use.
Make sure you have appropriate information for your paper. Where do the quotes and paraphrases go?
3. NOTES:
Do not directly refer to the quote.
DO NOT say things like:
"What this means is..." "This is saying that..."
"The author is explaining that..." "I think this is important to point out because..."
General Writing Rules:
Do not say: I think, I feel, I believe or any other variation of these words.
Do not say "YOU"
Do not start sentences with "It"
USE CONJUNCTIONS - AVOID SIMPLE SENTENCES
6 - 10 sentences in all paragraphs
a lot
thing and stuff - they are dead words...never use them again!
avoid contractions
4. Make sure you are working on your transitions and your citations! HAMBURGER!
5. For your final two trees, you should only be detailing what you're explaining. THAT MEANS NO NEED FOR MORE RESEARCH! Answer your research question: What did you find out? Significance of this project: Was this project helpful to you? Did it help you figure anything out for your life?
